Oblivion Remastered Finally Improves Performance With July 2025 Update

LinaGames2025-07-106830

Bethesda has revealed the contents of Update 1.2 for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, which is available on Steam Beta today, July 9. Among the changes brought by the new patch, Oblivion Remastered players can expect some bugs to be fixed, and more importantly, the game’s performance to finally improve.

Oblivion Remastered was shadow dropped earlier this year after rumors about its existence had continuously surfaced for months. Deemed as a remaster by developers Bethesda and Virtuos, the game is more akin to a remake, greatly improving graphics, overhauling the leveling system, and making some other major changes. The quality of the remaster ensured that Oblivion Remastered gained positive reviews and allowed the title to obtain an average critic score of 81 on OpenCritic.

Update 1.2 for Oblivion Remastered improves the open-world RPG in various ways, fixing problems with the UI, squashing dozens of bugs in quests and gameplay, and improving overall stability. Oblivion Remastered was criticized for its performance on consoles soon after its release, so these performance improvements are some of the main highlights of the update. According to the official patch notes, they include fixing the frame rate drop rates in some dungeons, reducing the frequency of hitches in the open world, optimizing the rendering of water, the weather system, character animations, and more. Another interesting change introduced by Update 1.2 is that gamers can tweak the difficulty settings further than before, fine-tuning elements such as “Player Combat Damage” and “Enemy Combat Damage.” Gamers who want to opt in for the update can do so by opening their Steam library, right-clicking on Oblivion Remastered, selecting “Properties,” “Betas,” and then Beta in the drop-down menu.

Oblivion Remastered is one of the best-selling games of 2025, so it’s good to see Bethesda still supporting it. Bethesda and Virtuos have not been incredibly quick with updates, which concerned some fans, but it seems that console players will have some of the worst performance issues fixed as soon as the update rolls out officially.

Unfortunately, Bethesda has no mod support planned for Oblivion Remastered in future updates. While this could change, it seems unlikely that console players will be able to use mods, as they are currently available only unofficially via platforms such as Nexus Mods, and can only be installed on PC. Hopefully, Bethesda will continue rolling out updates for Oblivion Remastered, though, as it’s still possible that such a huge open-world experience may still have some glitches after the new patch.
