Owners of the original PS5 model have expressed their dissatisfaction after PlayStation ditched them for the Ghost of Yotei limited-edition console covers. Periodically, the console maker announces consoles and accessories themed around major games, such as the upcoming first-party exclusive, Ghost of Yotei.
As soon as PlayStation's Ghost of Yotei-focused State of Play went on air, the buzz surrounding the new game started growing significantly on the internet. Apart from the gameplay reveal, one other thing that captivated the community was the themed hardware sporting designs heavily inspired by Sucker Punch's action-adventure title. Adding to the limited-edition consoles previously launched to tie in with highly anticipated games, such as Spider-Man 2, the livestream unveiled a unique Ghost of Yotei PS5 Slim console and console covers for the PS5 Slim and the PS5 Pro. While those who own these two console variants might be content with the announcement, the same couldn't be said for a certain section of players who play on the original PS5.

Ghost Of Yotei's Protagonist: 6 Things We Know About Atsu
Atsu is the new fresh face on the block who will play the protagonist in Ghost of Yotei. Here's a look at what we know about her so far.
PostsReddit users in the PlayStation subreddit criticized PlayStation for overlooking the original PS5 models for Ghost of Yotei's limited-edition console covers. Since this accessory was only confirmed for PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro versions, owners of the original PS5 have no way to decorate their consoles in these freshly revealed colors. Various posts and comments called out PlayStation's parent, Sony, for ditching the original variant even though many still play on it. An annoyed user bemoaned being left out and said, "Sony is a 'what have you bought from us lately' company ..." Another comment said that the company "abandoned" the first model "as quick as possible." A few players suggested those interested in keeping an eye on third-party vendors for Ghost of Yotei-themed console covers.
Ghost of Yotei Console Covers Skip Original PS5 Model, Annoying Some Players
Following the launch of the PS5 Slim in late 2023, Sony stopped the production of the original PS5 variant after around three years. However, the latter is still supported and is out there in abundance, especially in the reseller market. As a result, there is a sizable chunk of PS5 users who are on the original model even today. Keeping this in mind, excluding these players from receiving themed console covers appears to be a bit harsh from Sony's end. Previously, in 2024, PlayStation's 30th anniversary console covers were also not made available for the original model.
CloseAs things stand, owners of the original PS5 have no official way to flaunt Ghost of Yotei's style through their console. But, this set of players can still get their hands on the game's limited-edition DualSense controller, which is the second such controller to release in recent weeks besides the Death Stranding 2-inspired one.
