Classic F1 Steering Wheel Stolen At British GPA classic Formula One racecar on display in the Silverstone paddock during the British Grand Prix had its steering wheel stolen. That’s right, someone saw the historic vehicle and thought they’d help themselves to a nice little souvenir.
A backyard go-kart track has resulted in a court case.
The good news is Northamptonshire Police have surveillance footage of the theft, which took place at about 2:30 pm on July 4. In an official press release, police released a screen capture from that video, showing the man believed to be the thief.
He appears to be wearing a McLaren shirt, the distinct papaya color prominent in the image.
Just remember, suspicion of guilt doesn’t always mean a person did something. But police are encouraging the man or anyone who recognizes him to step forward so the matter can be cleared up.
That F1 car which had its steering wheel swiped, along with several others, were on display as part of a tribute to the late Eddie Jordan. Just that fact makes the theft all the more despicable.
Speaking of despicable, another historic F1 car on display in the Silverstone paddock sustained several thousand pounds in damage when someone climbed onto the display stand and into the cockpit.
Initially, three young YouTubers were accused of the expensive stunt and were arrested by Northamptonshire Police. The three men deny the accusations, saying they watched someone else sit in the car.
Police say after a “thorough investigation” was conducted, the men were released and no action was taken. They didn’t say the YouTubers didn’t damage the car, which is curious.
In total, Northamptonshire Police say the British Grand Prix weekend resulted in 34 crimes reported at the event. Those ranged from theft to assault, criminal damage, and drugs possession. In total, 20 suspects were arrested.
