Legendary 1999 Chrysler Viper GTS-R C20 returns to the spotlight with a historic racing pedigree and a fresh restoration.

One of the most successful race cars of its era, the 1999 Chrysler Viper GTS-R chassis C20, is poised for a high-profile return at Broad Arrow’s Monterey Jet Center Auction this August. With a formidable history in both European and American racing, the ex-ORECA works car stands out as a key piece of motorsport history.

Built to FIA GT Championship specs, chassis C20 debuted mid-season in 1999 and quickly proved its worth. Piloted by Jean-Philippe Belloc and Dominique Dupuy, the Viper claimed victories at Hockenheim and Budapest before capturing a memorable win at Watkins Glen alongside American co-driver David Donohue. That triumphant performance included pole position, fastest lap, and an overall win—cementing the car’s place in endurance racing lore.

Following its FIA GT campaign, the Viper continued its winning ways in France’s FFSA GT Championship. Driven by Dupuy and François Fiat under the Dominique Dupuy Organisation banner, the car captured back-to-back series championships in 2000 and 2001, winning 10 races over two seasons. Despite growing competition, C20 remained competitive through 2004, adding four more victories and multiple podiums.

The car changed hands in 2007 and was eventually restored to its 1999 Watkins Glen livery. Since then, it has competed at prestigious historic events including Le Mans Classic, Sebring, and Daytona’s Classic 24. A full mechanical restoration between 2019 and 2021 brought it back to top form, with over €150,000 invested.

Presented now in fully sorted condition with a record of both dominance and durability, the Viper GTS-R C20 represents a rare opportunity. Few racing machines offer such a complete resume of factory development, major wins, and long-term care. For collectors and vintage racers alike, it’s a once-in-a-generation car ready to compete again.
