Recently Added Xbox Game Pass Multiplayer Game is a Big Hit

Recent day one Xbox Game Pass release Rematch has hit an incredible player milestone since its launch into the popular subscription service. Rematch is just a drop in the bucket that's become a stellar year for Xbox Game Pass; some have even said it's been the service's best year yet. From Game of the Year contenders like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Blue Prince, and last year's Metaphor: ReFantazio, to super-strong first-party offerings in Avowed, Doom: The Dark Ages, and South of Midnight, Game Pass subscribers have been living it up in 2025 with lots more to come later in the year.

One of Game Pass' more unique day one titles, Rematch is a third-person soccer game where, unlike EA FC's magnetized ball system, the ball moves freely around the field, requiring higher levels of skill and concentration to find success on the pitch. The game's 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5 modes offer varying degrees of competition, as does its ranked mode which, like many other multiplayer games' ranked offerings, has players climbing the ranks or plummeting with poor play. Rematch is made by Sloclap, the acclaimed indie studio behind the shared world fighting game Absolver and the more recent, hugely celebrated stylistic kung fu game Sifu.

Many gamers were initially critical of Sloclap's decision to make a soccer game, but the results one month post-launch suggest otherwise. In a new Xbox Wire post, Sloclap celebrates having attracted an incredible three million players on Xbox alone, with its pre-launch beta shattering participation records. Three million players isn't even taking into account the other platforms Rematch is available on, PlayStation 5 and PC, so it's possible the game's grand total player count could be even higher.

It's not made clear exactly what percentage of Rematch's three million Xbox players accessed the game via Game Pass and how many of them purchased the $30 game outright. However, it's likely that Game Pass subscribers make up a huge portion of that number. The rest of Rematch's celebratory Xbox Wire post delved into the game's promising future and how the game is only in its infancy with Season 0. Many more seasons of the game are to come, with Sloclap having tons of fun arcadey ideas for future limited-time and permanent game modes.

With Sloclap having so many big post-launch plans, it's great that Rematch's playerbase is already so strong. Because of this, the seasonal content isn't necessarily being made solely to entice new players to a struggling game, but to instead keep a large, thriving playerbase satisfied long-term, which must be a great position to be in for Sloclap.

Rematch just received its first big update a few days ago, bringing a massive number of bug fixes and improvements to the game. Players can most certainly expect more updates in the near future, as Sloclap prepares Season 1 to go live sometime in the coming months. Fans should keep a keen eye on Sloclap's social media for word about future game modes, updates, and Season 1.
