A Ferrari F40 unlike any other is set to cross the auction block at RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2025 sale, and collectors are already buzzing. Finished in the striking Azzurro Hyperion and fitted with Le Mans-inspired upgrades, this one-off creation is expected to fetch between $2.5 and $2.8 million when it goes under the hammer in August.

Built in 1992 as chassis #94647, this F40 was originally delivered in the model’s iconic Rosso Corsa paint with a standard Stoffa Vigogna interior. Like all 1,315 factory-built F40s, it left Maranello in red—until a bold vision reshaped its future.

In 2021, the car’s then-owner commissioned Furlonger Specialist Cars in the United Kingdom to transform it into a road-going homage to the rare F40 LM, of which only 19 were ever built. The mechanical upgrades are substantial, including a Michelotto-developed LM racing gearbox, uprated turbo wastegates, and a Tubi exhaust system that gives the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V8 an even more ferocious growl. A KW adjustable suspension with a nose-lift system, 355-millimeter Brembo GT brakes, and custom 18-inch center-lock wheels complete the performance enhancements.

Yet, it’s the paintwork that steals the spotlight. The full respray in Azzurro Hyperion, a metallic blue shade rarely seen on Ferraris, sets this F40 apart as a true one-off. This color, first offered on select early-2000s Ferraris, adds a sophisticated twist to Pininfarina’s sharp composite bodywork. Inside, the cockpit mirrors the exterior’s elegance, trading the familiar red-and-black trim for bespoke blue Alcantara upholstery.
Despite its modifications, the car retains its Ferrari Classiche certification, original Red Book, and extensive documentation. With just under 20,000 miles, it stands as a collector’s dream—a perfect blend of performance upgrades, unique aesthetics, and verified authenticity.
The “Blue Chip F40” joins an exclusive list of modified F40s, making it one of the most distinctive examples ever offered publicly.
