This article contains spoilers about the lore of the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion Remastered.

The recent update 1.2 for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has fixed the lore-inaccurate door of the Dark Brotherhood. Soon after Oblivion Remastered was released, most gamers were pretty happy with the graphic update received by the title, but some old-school fans noticed that the revamped door of the Dark Brotherhood faction not only looked worse than the original, but it had some lore inaccuracies.

Shadow-dropped earlier this year, Oblivion Remastered quickly became one of the most popular games of 2025. Last week, Bethesda and Virtuos released update 1.2 for Oblivion Remastered on Steam beta, improving the open-world title in many ways. For example, the new update enhanced the performance of several areas, optimizing the rendering of water, character animations, and more.

One change not mentioned in the update’s patch notes, however, is that the Dark Brotherhood’s door in Oblivion Remastered has finally been fixed. Originally spotted by gamers soon after the release, the Dark Brotherhood’s door in Oblivion Remastered did not have the iconic blood-red light and featured the Night Mother slaying seven kids. This disappointed some fans, as not only did they think the whole vibe of the entrance was ruined, but the five kids represented the actual number of her children the Night Mother murdered when she conceived with Sithis, the Void’s god, in the setting. According to the lore, she’s then murdered by townsfolk, before turning into an immortal being that players find in the game. As spotted by PC Gamer, however, the door now has its classic red glow, and the number of children has been rightly reduced to five once more.

Oblivion Remastered was widely praised after its release, so it’s good to see that Bethesda and Virtuous are interested in fixing the lore inaccuracies of the game, which could easily be missed by most fans. It’s unknown, however, what future updates the developers may bring. It’s unlikely that players will see any kind of new content, but there’s still space for Oblivion Remastered to optimize its performance even more and get rid of more bugs.

In light of the open-world RPG’s huge success, Bethesda recently unveiled physical editions of Oblivion Remastered for PlayStation 5. The copies can already be pre-ordered, and will launch in October 2025, coming in two versions: regular and deluxe editions. It remains to be seen, however, if these editions will contain the entire game on the disc or just part of it, and gamers will have to download the rest, as has been happening with many physical releases lately.
