Four Door Chevy Malibu Becomes Sleeper Street Rocket

At a single glance, most people would dismiss this four-door ’67 Chevy Malibu as some old grocery getter and that’s it. But that’s the whole point of a sleeper build, to take something that doesn’t look the least bit fast, then turn it into an earth-shattering ride. That’s what Project 395, as the owner calls it, is all about.

This custom motorcycle has a Ferrari V8.

We know a lot of muscle car guys and just enthusiasts in general who still have trouble accepting the last-gen Dodge Charger Hellcat is in fact fast. When they see the extra set of doors in the rear, some gearheads just can’t fathom such a vehicle could actually throw down hard.

The guy who built this car in his garage initially paid just $1,200 for it. With blood, sweat, tears, and yes money he was able to transform the Malibu into his dream ride.

Created to rip through autocross courses with a vengeance, it’s powered by a 468 big block V8 fed by a Holley XP950 carb, which is surprising. Back that is a Muncie M22 four-speed transmission and a 12-bolt TrueTrac Eaton rear with a limited-slip differential and a 3.31:1 gear ratio.

Amazingly, the Chevy is using the factory frame from an El Camino. The tubular suspension comes from Speedway Motors, which work with Lundrum springs and Bilstein shocks. This is an old school build not only with a carb but also drum brakes.

Because autocross is all about handling, the guy flared out the fenders about four inches, which you probably can’t tell unless you know ’67 Malibus well. That helps keep the 315/30 18-inch tires tucked away nicely.

The best part of this Malibu is the Mustang badge on the grille, Tesla badge on the rear, and “Student Driver” bumper sticker with the “D” and “E” in “student” crossed out. You can tell this guy is a lot of fun and likes to make people laugh.
