The compact sedan is impressively roomy, fun to drive, and conservatively handsome in an ever-shrinking segment. The current 7th generation debuted in 2018 and was refreshed in 2022. For the 2025 model year, the Jetta has been touched up once again with a new grille, new headlights, and a new full-width taillight that looks more cohesive. The cabin also gets tweaked with a new dash, a standard 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and the somewhat polarizing climate touch panel.
The Jetta competes with more modern fare like the Honda Civic and the Hyundai Elantra. Those models have hybrid options, while the Jetta does not. The good news is that the 158-hp turbocharged inline-four engine mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission nets some great efficiency. EPA estimates are as high as 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway for some trim levels, which is pretty impressive for a gas-only sedan. The bad news is that the six-speed manual transmission that was available last year is no longer an option for the regular Jetta.
