'Road House 2' Hit With Major Setback as Guy Ritchie Exits as Director

The Road House remake in 2024 starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor was initially met with resistance in a number of ways.
The backlash from fans who feared the original Road House, a cult classic starring Patrick Swayze in 1989, might be soiled in some capacity was somewhat predictable, as that type of reaction comes with the territory when attempting to reboot a coveted film.
But much more significantly, the movie not onlyfaced a lawsuit from the writer of the original Road House, it also dealt with a potential boycott of the premiere from its very own director, Doug Liman, who wasn't pleased with Amazon releasing the movie exclusively on Prime Video, keeping it from theaters.

It did so well that a sequel was green-lit and, as of late April, the great Guy Ritchie was announced as the director of Road House 2.
Unfortunately, that's apparently no longer the case.
By all accounts, Ritchie is officially out as director of the forthcoming sequel, with no specific reason given just yet.
But regardless of whatever that reasoning might be, this serves as a major blow to the film considering production is set to begin for Road House 2 in September.

According to Deadline, despite Ritchie's surprising exit, "Road House 2 remains an important priority for Amazon MGM Studios and the plan is to keep this production on track to shoot this fall. A search for a new director is underway, and sources say casting continues."

But first things first, the film needs a new director.
It's just a shame we won't be seeing what a Guy Ritchie-directed Road Housemovie would look like.
The 56-year-old'soutstanding movie historyreally speaks for itself, and Ritchie's recent dive into television withThe Gentlemen and MobLand has only furthered his legend, as both were well-received by critics and fans.
