EamesGames2025-07-195710

Ahead of the game's fourth anniversary, Pokemon Unite revealed that the Theia Sky Ruins map would see significant updates to shake up competitive play. Alongside the Theia Sky Ruins changes, Pokemon Unite will bring in more Mega Evolutions and more creatures throughout the rest of 2025, with two playable Pokemon introduced each month through the fall and early winter.

The news came as Pokemon Unite launched its fourth anniversary update, which introduced the Eon Pokemon Latios as a playable character. Latios is considered an Attacker in Pokemon Unite, with access to moves like Draco Meteor and Luster Purge, along with a way to fly directly to its counterpart, Latias, if both Eon Pokemon are on the same team. An event to earn Latios' Unite License runs from July 18 to August 7, with another event dedicated to Latias starting immediately after. Latias will be available as a Support Pokemon at a later date.

Along with the addition of two legendary creatures, Pokemon Unite will continue making major changes throughout 2025. According to a Letter from the Producer forum post, the Pokemon Unite development team stated that the Theia Sky Ruins map will see a major change that could alter the way ranked matches are played. A future update will replace Rayquaza with another iconic Legendary Pokemon from the Hoenn region, as Groudon will become the map's main objective in a future update. The team that lands a finishing blow on Groudon will get a buff that increases attack power and goal-scoring speed for a short time. However, this buff can be stolen by other players who knock out a Pokemon on the team that defeated Groudon, which can give teams a final chance to claim victory in a close battle.
