A new mod for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl adds a crafting system to the popular game, allowing players not to rely so much on traders. The mod could be a good fit for gamers who liked the survival systems in STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, but still thought it lacked one of the biggest staples of the genre.

STALKER 2 was released in 2024 for PC and Xbox, and it has since become quite successful, selling over a million copies in under 48 hours. Since the game's launch, developer GSC World has promised players that STALKER 2 would have official mod support on PC and consoles, which helped the title to foster a thriving modding community.

Now, a modder called ZunaSW has released “Craftable Zone,” a new mod that adds a crafting system to STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Despite being a survival game, this is something that the title does not have in its official version. The mod adds the ability to craft multiple materials, such as devices, medicine, ammunition, tools, and more to STALKER 2, allowing gamers to cook and disassemble items, too. According to the creator, the mod changes the experience of playing by giving more incentives for gamers to explore STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl's The Zone and rely less on traders. The mod can be downloaded from Nexus Mods, but gamers should be aware that it will only work if “Lootable Zone,” another project by the same creator, is installed. “Craftable Zone” is a work in progress, however, and some elements may not be working entirely as intended.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl has quite a few excellent mods that gamers can try. Some of the most popular modifications made by the community change the experience to make it easier, including the ability to spend less stamina while jumping or sprinting, getting longer days while playing, or turning off durability loss from weapons. However, not many mods make such big changes to the gameplay loop as ZunaSW’s “Craftable Zone.”

Fortunately, GSC Game World has been doing a good job of supporting the modding community. STALKER 2’s Patch 1.5.1, for example, introduced the new Zone Kit to the game, fulfilling previous promises to improve mod support for the title. After the update, the chances of instability caused by mods have been significantly reduced. In any case, it’s always wise to use mods with caution, as they’re mostly made by independent creators and may not be entirely compatible with each other when used simultaneously.
