Meg Mac Announces New Album ‘It’s My Party’, Shares ‘He Said No’

Meg Mac is back – and she’s got a new album, new live shows and a new heartbreak anthem to boot.

The ARIA chart-topping soul powerhouse has just dropped a fresh single dubbed ‘He Said No’, marking our first taste of her hotly anticipated fourth studio LP, set to land later this year. The dance-inflected track started as a forgotten vocal loop on Meg’s loop pedal, but has been reborn into a full-blown emotional universe thanks to UK producer Bullion (of Carly Rae Jepsen and Ben Howard fame).

“We found this vocal loop and Nathan built this whole world around it,” Meg explains. “But then I had to figure out what ‘He Said No’ even meant… and what I’d sing.”

The answer? A tear-stained goodbye at the airport. Kind of like John Denver’s classic ‘Leaving on a Jet Plane’ except from the perspective of the person who gets turfed at the terminal, watching someone they love disappear into the sky, with no promises and no return date.

“Nothing seems sadder than dropping someone at the airport and not knowing if you’ll ever see them again,” Meg reflects. But don’t be fooled by the melancholy subject matter — the track is wrapped in plenty of her trademark melodic catharsis.

To boot, the visuals were pieced together by Meg herself as part of her new “mixed media” aesthetic — with stunning timelapse footage captured by her actual dad, who used to film landings and cityscapes from the cockpit during his days as an airline pilot.

To celebrate the launch of this new era, Meg is also stripping things back with a one-of-a-kind pop-up theatre residency at Sydney’s iconic Belvoir Street Theatre this August. Across three exclusive Monday night shows, she’ll guide fans through her musical world with a blend of storytelling, atmosphere and live performance — her most intimate shows yet, directed by Alexander Berlage (of Cry-Baby and American Psycho fame).
