Jessica Simpson Just Debuted Her Darkest Hair Color Ever

Jessica Simpson has been a Barbie blonde for most of her starlet life, and the honeyed, light blonde color truly suits her. The singer just debuted a new color, though—one of the darkest shades we’ve ever seen her wear—and she looks absolutely incredible. The look, being dubbed “teddy bear bronde,” is still blonde, but a much darker color with more neutral tones.
“I absolutely love Jessica Simpson’s new hair color,” says Cassie Cohen, celebrity colorist at Chris McMillan Salon in Beverly Hills, Calif. “This is a huge departure from her signature solid buttery blonde, but I think it’s a great change. There is a perfect combination of warm to neutral tones.”
She says that the overall base, or “background” color matches her natural hair hue, and has been infused with pops of honey blonde highlights ribboned throughout her hair. The highlights are prominent around the face, and then evenly distributed throughout the hair. And there’s a lot of inspiration to be had here, Cohen says.

Darker Hues Are Trending
She adds that this shift to a darker hue is arguably part of a larger trend we’re seeing, where people are “going back to their roots” for easier upkeep. (We’re also seeing this trend play out with the concept of “recession hair,” which is all about prolonging time between hair appointments to save some cash.)
Going darker is also a natural shift we begin to see around that switch from summer to fall. Darker bases and more neutral or warm tones feel like a natural choice in the cooler season, and they look great when paired with all those rich jewel tones we see in autumn, like berry, burgundy, and sapphire blue.
How to Get This Teddy Bear Bronde Look
Toying with the idea of trying this dark color yourself? Cohen says, “For those who want to replicate the look, start by showing your colorist a photo of Jessica Simpson’s new color for a good visual,” she says. “I would then ask for a lived-in, neutral and low contrast dimensional bronde. The highlights are honey-toned to give the ‘teddy bear bronde’ a shimmer of warmth.”

Whatever the case, it’s a gorgeous color and we’re giving the pop singer all the inspo credit for this look.
