Chinese Soulslike Black Myth: Wukong is on its way to Xbox consoles next week, and it's bringing 81 achievements along with it. Black Myth: Wukong was initially released last August as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive and went on to become nominated for Game of the Year at the 2024 Game Awards, ultimately losing out to PlayStation's own beloved Astro Bot. Still, Black Myth: Wukong is regarded as one of the very best non-FromSoftware Soulslikes and has sold upwards of 25 million lifetime units so far.
There had been a ton of controversy surrounding Black Myth: Wukong's Xbox release announcement earlier this year, with many gamers believing that developer Game Science struck a one-year exclusivity deal with PlayStation seeing that the game is coming to Xbox on the exact date it initially launched on PS5. Game Science later came out to explain that the Xbox version of the game simply needed more development time, and that the date August 20 holds significance to the studio, as much of Black Myth's announcement and promotional materials went live on or around that date in years prior.
Black Myth: Wukong's Xbox Achievement List More Than Doubles its PS5 Trophies
Nevertheless, Black Myth: Wukong is about to land on Xbox Series X and S consoles next week and achievement fans will be kept quite busy. The game's official Xbox achievement list was recently made public, revealing that Black Myth: Wukong will offer a whopping 81 achievements to unlock. This is more than double the game's PlayStation trophy list, which consists of a much less daunting 36 trophies.

Most big games that release on Xbox usually come with achievement lists that don't exceed 60 total achievements. However, given that Black Myth: Wukong is bringing over its trophy list from PS5, Game Science made some changes that made the Xbox list balloon. Many of the game's PlayStation trophies bundle two or more different feats together, while the Xbox list splits them all into separate achievements, creating a total of 81. Since base games can't exceed 1,000 total available gamerscore on Xbox at launch, the vast majority of Black Myth: Wukong's achievements are only worth five gamerscore, with a few of the most important ones netting 65, and the platinum trophy "Final Fulfillment" carrying over to Xbox for 150 gamerscore. Black Myth players on Xbox will be unlocking achievements at a quicker rate than PS players, but the gamerscore they earn per achievement will still be quite low.
With a 6% and 12% trophy/achievement completion rate on PlayStation 5 and Steam respectively, it'll be interesting to see what Black Myth: Wukong's completion percentage will turn out to be on Xbox in the months following the game's August 20 release. While 81 achievements seem daunting, the Xbox completion will require the exact same amount of time and effort as its PS5 and Steam counterparts. It'll ultimately come down to how many Xbox gamers pick the game up one year after its big PS5 splash, and how many of them are dedicated enough to go for Black Myth's challenging 100% completion.
