A Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Character Could Lead New Spin-off Movie

While Star Wars fans have yet to witness the release of a theatrical outing following 2019’s Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, rumors regarding future projects continue to surface on the internet, with the latest one centering around a potential spin-off movie. Recent speculations suggest that Lucasfilm is presently planning to sanction a spin-off film that would revolve around the setup of the sequel trilogy (Episodes VII-IX).

According to renowned entertainment scooper Daniel Richtman, Lucasfilm is eyeing to expand the world of Star Wars’ sequel trilogy by moving ahead with a spin-off feature.
In his latest Patreon update, Richtman noted, “Lucasfilm is discussing a spinoff film to the sequel trilogy.” However, he failed to specify the character from episodes seven, eight, and nine that would lead the said project. “Unclear for which character,” the insider added.

Additionally, Lando was announced as the third spin-off in the long-running science-fiction film series back at Disney Investor Day 2020. While initially envisioned as a TV series, the project has since transitioned into a feature-length film.
Centering around Donald Glover’s take on the charismatic Lando Calrissian, who made his Star Wars debut with the Alden Ehrenreich-led Solo, the project has not received any positive update for the better half of two years.
Despite Daniel Richtman’s update, Lucasfilm has yet to share an official word regarding the proposed sequel trilogy spin-off of Star Wars. The franchise is currently on course to make a much-awaited comeback to the big screens with 2026’s The Mandalorian & Grogu, ending a seven-year hiatus from theaters.
In addition to the Pedro Pascal-led flick, work on Shawn Levy’sStar Wars: Starfighter, featuring Ryan Gosling in the lead, and James Mangold’s untitled Star Wars movie is also progressing well.
